Presentation of the HAMSTER
The hamster is a small rodent weighing 80 to 130 grams. Its average life span is of 3 to 4 years. It feeds granules specially adapted or seeds, oat flakes, bread, vegetables, fruit. Its water can be supplied using a vertical bottle.
A hamster eating area 15 grams of food and drinks ten milliliters of water per day. The hamster cage should measure around 1500 cm2 (~ 30 by 50cm), must be covered litter (wood chips) and trimmed games (wheel, tunnels, ladder, boughs…).
Hamster often lives alone and its activity is rather nocturnal.
Hamsters can breed from the age of two months for males and a half months for females. usually lasts breeding season from May to September. Gestation lasts 15 days and litter size varies 1 to 14 small, breastfed for 3 weeks. Small open their eyes at the age of 15 days.
Handling the hamster must be delicate, in the palm of your hands, to prevent injuries. Aggressive hamsters are entered in a towel and always avoid hanging by the neck skin.
Hamsters can have skin diseases, which must be treated for the well being of the animal. Dental and digestive problems (diarrhea) often is serious should be treated quickly.
