The law on dangerous dogs
This Act of 6 January 1999 relating to animals dangerous and stray distinguishes between two categories of dogs :
1st category dogs :
This category is not registered in the LOF dogs but are assimilated by their morphological characteristics in the following breeds :
- Staffordshire Terrier
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- Mastiff
- Tosa
The owners of these animals have the following obligations :
- Detention prohibited to minors and persons convicted (Record # 2)
- Acquisition, sale and import are prohibited
- Identification tattoo or microchip
- Rabies vaccination update
- Personal liability insurance for the holding of the animal
- Statement of the identified animal, vaccinated and insured Mayor
- Keeping a leash and muzzle mandatory
- No access to public places, open to the public premises, the public transports
- No parking in the common parts of buildings
- compulsory sterilization
Dogs 2nd category
This category of dogs registered in the LOF Staffordshire Terrier breeds, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Tosa. As well as dogs that are assimilable by their morphological characteristics to Rottweilers.
The owners of these animals have the following obligations :
- Detention prohibited to minors and persons convicted (Record # 2)
- Identification tattoo or microchip
- Rabies vaccination update
- Personal liability insurance for the holding of the animal
- Statement of the identified animal, vaccinated and insured Mayor
- Keeping a leash and muzzle mandatory
Non dogs described in the previous two categories have no specific obligation with respect to this law.
