Identification of your animal
Identification of your animal, dog or cat, can make you great service for fugue or loss of your pet.
In addition, identification of your animal is legally required in the following situations :
- For all dogs of more than 4 month ((Law N ° 99-5 of 6 January 1999).
- When any change of owner or before any transfer whether free or expensive.
- When an animal passes by establishments breeding or sale.
- During stay in campsites, pensions or holiday centres.
- When the animal is presented in exhibitions and competitions.
- Furthermore, for animals vaccinated against rabies, the rabies vaccination certificate is legally valid only if the animal is identified.
There are currently several techniques to identify your pet :
- Tattoo clip : essentially reserved for very young puppies, This technique is to puncture the skin of the ear.
- The dermographe tattoo : performed under general anesthesia, It was the most common means of identification until 2001. The dermographe allows, in the same way as for human tattoos, draw the figures and letters of your animal tattoo.
- Installation of an electronic chip identification : It is carried out without general anesthesia. It is to implement an electronic transponder of small size (about 1 cm). In all cases, don't forget to report any personal change in the identification file manager : change of ownership, address or phone number. These changes are free and indispensable to find yourself in the case of fugue or loss of your pet.
