Relief of the requirements for travel to certain countries of the European Union
Until end 2011, the requirements for travel to certain countries of the European Union were much more drastic than for the other Member States.
This was particularly the case of tourist movements with domestic carnivores (dog, CAT, ferret) to the United Kingdom, the Ireland, Malta, the Sweden or the Finland.
The passage of the borders of these countries required:
NOT ONLY, the same conditions as for the other Member States namely:
1. The possession of a European passport (listing the description of the animal, the address of its owners, its identification number and dates of its rabies vaccinations.)
2. Vaccination against rabies valid (rabies vaccination is considered valid,According to the States, After a minimum of 21 to 30 days after a vaccination, immediately for a reminder made within the agreed)
3. A valid identification (the identification with must be earlier than the rabies vaccination so that the latter is valid)
NB: For animals identified after the 3 July 2011, only the identification by electronic chip is recognized by the Member States. Animals identified before this date, identification by tattooing remains valid if it is clearly legible
(see: “New rules on travel of domestic carnivores in Europe”)
BUT ALSO additional obligations, sometimes much stricter:
1. For the Finland :
* One treatment dogs against echinococcosis less than 30 days prior to travel
2. For the Sweden :
* THEban the crossing of borders to animals of less than 3 month
* One blood determination rabies antibodies (result required ≥50UI/mL)
* One treatment against the ticks and theechinococcosis less than 10 days prior to travel
* Access and means of transport permitted routing
3. For theIreland, Malta, The United Kingdom :
* THEban the border crossing at the animals less of 3 month (vaccination against rabies cannot be performed in animals of 3 month minimum)
* A mandatory microchip identification (even for the animals identified before the 3 July 2011)
* One blood determination of the anticorpsantirabiques (result
required ≥50UI/mL)
* An interval of 6 month minimum between the blood and the border crossing
* For dogs, one ticks treatment and a treatment against echinococcosis (containing praziquantel) administered by a veterinarian in the 24 to 48 hours prior to departure and mentioned in the Passport
* A delivery by the access and means of transport authorized
* The presence of the pet in Since most Western Europe from 6 month.
Since 1 January 2012, the rules for public non-commercial domestic carnivores to one of these European States were considerably alleviated.
¤ The Sweden all figure among European States for which detailed rules are to be completed.
¤. With regard to the RULES concerning the other four Member States, they are now VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL to those required in the other States Europeans.
Namely:
1. One Passport, one rule identification and a vaccination against rabies valid are required.
2. The blood determination of rabies antibodies is now longer required, just as treatment against ticks.
¤ Only remain MANDATORY, IN ADDITION TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS necessary to travel to the other Member States :
1. Identification by electronic chip (even for the animals identified before the 3 July 2011) for theIreland, Malta and the United Kingdom
2. For dogs destined for the Finland, theIreland, Malta and the United Kingdom : one treatment against echinococcosis registered in the passport after administration by a veterinarian authorised but this time in the 120 to 24 hours prior to departure (conditions much more easily applicable in particular for departures the aftermath of weekends or holidays…).
3. A delivery by the access and means of transport authorized for the United Kingdom (arriving by private plane or boat is for example prohibited)
