It is a congenital disorder with a hereditary component. Heredity deals with several genes and causes an abnormal development of the joint between the femur and pelvis. It is a latent defect which should be diagnosed 30 days after the maximum delivery. It is present in all breeds of dogs, and even in cats but the large breeds of dogs are the most concerned.
