Cataract

cairn terrierCataract is a disease of the eye of the dog (and more rarely of the cat). The lens, which is a kind of lens to focus the image in the retina, then undergoes changes.Indeed, cataract is a clouding of the lens which normally must remain transparent.Symptoms that may make you suspect a cataract are :

    • A change in the look of your pet with a look that seems more bluish or even opaque.

  • A change in behavior with difficulty moving especially when low light. The animal then becomes calmer and sometimes remains prostrate because of insufficient visual capabilities.

The causes most famous cataracts are the age (appearance often to 7-8 years) but also certain diseases such diabetes.

Your veterinarian is able to diagnose a possible cataract and define gravity. Depending on the degree of evolution of cataract and overall achievement of the eye, medical or surgical treatments may be proposed. Cataract is not necessarily inevitable and in some cases, treatment allows the animal to recover sight.

If low vision or change in color of an eye in your pet, do not hesitate to tell us about.
