The duration of development (from the egg to the infective larva) the cyathostome varies from 3 to 24 days. The survival of larvae in the pasture can reach 12 months if conditions are optimal. The currently used routinely threshold is 200 OPG (Eggs per gram of faeces). Although there is no correlation between excretion and gut load, studies have shown that below this threshold, the risk of clinical pathology is reduced.
